"The new space's high standards are being established
from the get-go..." - The Wall Street Journal
New York, NY - December 23, 2014 - Following several weeks of highly successful preview shows throughout November and December, Blue Note Entertainment (BNEG) announces a month-long grand opening celebration for Subrosa, its new Latin & World Music venue, in January 2015. Latin for "under the rose," Subrosa is an intimate 120-capacity listening room located in New York City's Meatpacking District (63 Gansevoort St.), dedicated to showcasing music, art, and culture.

January 2015 grand opening programming will put an emphasis on the venue's Latin focus, showcasing artists representing musical heritages from multiple countries, including: Cuba (The Pedrito Martínez Group, Manuel Valera & New Cuban Express, Danay Suarez, Gerardo Contino y Los Habaneros, and Xiomara Laugart: The Voice of Celia Cruz on Broadway - all of whom span various sub-styles including Afro-Latin/Cuban, jazz & R&B); Colombia (Pablo Mayor-Folklore Urbano: The Quintet and Juancho Herrera); and the Dominican Republic (Alex Ferreira), among others.

Additionally, Subrosa will host two special APAP showcases - also ticketed to the general public - that highlight the venue's broader eclectic focus, featuring Red Baraat (January 9) and HENRY, HAMPTON and LOW - Featuring: Levon Henry, Alan Hampton, & Meshell Ndegeocello (January 10 - presented by Jill Newman Productions).

The Pedrito Martínez Group, led by the celebrated/daringly inventive Cuban percussionist Pedrito Martínez, will continue their on-going monthly residency at Subrosa with shows on January 1-3, 10-11, 13-14, 21-22, and 28-30. Pablo Mayor-Folklore Urbano: The Quintet
One of the contemporary voices of Colombia outside its borders, pianist/composer/producer Pablo Mayor revisits the genre of Latin jazz with a new intimate version of his renowned Folklore Urbano Orchestra. The group sheds new light on Mayor's original compositions and arrangements of Colombian standards with more space for extended improvisations allowed by this jazz format.  It is not, however, what one might expect from a typical Latin Jazz ensemble.  In the signature style of Pablo Mayor, the folkloric aspect-the inherent groove-is the utmost priority.
