Judy Collins Both Sides Now Cleopatra 2014

An American musical icon releases a retrospective that clearly shows she has no plans to slow down for the forseeable future.

Let's face it, at 75 most entertainers are doing a victory lap announcing their long expected retirement. Judy Collins continues her singer / song writer and social activism work long after other artists have called it a career. Both Sides Now celebrates the life and times of an American legend at a time with the music business is in short supply. Far from the stereotypical greatest hits package that normally signals the potential end to a career, numerous guest and some live tracks dot the harmonic landscape giving a far more detailed look at her illustrious career.
You know the vast majority of the tunes here but some surprises are tossed in for good measure including stellar cameo appearance from Joan Baez and Stephen Stills. This meticulously crafted two disc set is a must for any serious library. As I have long said, "You don't review greatness but instead celebrate greatness." Both Sides Now The Best of Judy Collins is a celebration of one of the architects of the folk / rock movement and her timeless work literally reviews itself.
