Japan's answer to Paul Motian, Ichiro Onoe is perhaps the next great lyrical drummer of our time.

Ichiro Onoe and Wind Child take finesse to a new level and we will not even discuss his compositional expertise - yet! Having studied at Berklee and performed with such luminaries as Ron Carter and Makoto Ozone there is little to question in terms of credibility. Here is a brief bi-lingual of sorts break down:

Pianist Ludovic Allainmat would seem to drive the lyrical train while saxophonist Geoffrey Secco provides the perfect counterpoint throughout this amazing set. Drummer Onoe plays with a heightened sense of finesse and swing not heard since the passing of the great Paul Motian. An amazing session that bodes well for perhaps the next great universal drummer to come our way. Nothing to grind on here, as close to perfect as one can get.
