Ranee Lee is one of the best kept secrets in music, a vocal artist of the highest caliber!

On Sept. 9th Ranee Lee is set to drop a righteous set of jazz, soul and reggae classics with What's Going On. Her 13th release on the acclaimed Juno label also includes some exquisitely crafted originals with four tunes featuring the Birds On A Wire String Quartet. A true renaissance artist, Lee extends her talent to include work as an award winning actress, author and respected jazz educator. One of the rare legitimate triple threats in jazz and a voice that could share the stage well with any of her contemporaries.
Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" opens this soulful and soul filled look at modern music. Other winning numbers include a more deconstructed Latin riff on the Coleman Hawkins / Thelonious Monk number "I Mean You" while the Bob Marley classic "One Love" is a more intimate personal tune given Lee's mother was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Ranee Lee contributes the original "Echoes of The Heart" which sounds as though it is a time tested standard from the Great American Songbook. The fabulous Taurey Butler handles the arrangement on this smoker and Lee simply brings it home! The highlight may well be the Leon Russell standard "A Song For You" which is a showcase for all the weapons in her vocal arsenal.
Lots of great female vocalists working today, Ranee Lee is one of the best.
