Peppino D'Agostino Penumbra 2014

Peppino D'Agostino takes the ambigious term "virtuoso" and gives it substance.
Brent Black /
A virtuoso is someone that excels at a particular artistic endeavor. The ambiguity in this phrase is that the term is often applied at will to technical prodigies with minimal artistic depth. Peppino D'Agostino is a six string acoustic guitarist steeped in the discipline of the classical but with the improvisational spirit of an impressionistic painter. Penumbra is the steel string presentation of what is traditionally the harmonic ground zero for the nylon string instrument.

While the improvisational technique is that of a technical master class the minimalistic approach is the melodic bridge to the classical world. A new world almost global feel that creates a spatial unified field between genres originating on different continents is a thing of beauty. A technician of unbridled passion and the artistic soul of a poet is rarely pulled together with some intimacy and grace as it is with Penumbra. A critically acclaimed master has released one of the finest solo recordings for acoustic guitar.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
