Starbucks, Jazz and Going Independent / What You Don't Know Can Hurt You.

So...Starbucks is raising their already inflated prices. Like you didn't see it coming?

Now the recent initiative to pay for employee education has been blamed and "could" that be a driving force in the somewhat modest price increase? Maybe...Coffee prices are raising across the board in term of harvesting and production so we can be "accurate" in saying that the opportunity has everything falling into place. Looking for a smoking gun here is like milking a dead cow.

What you may not know or perhaps realize is that Starbucks pricing is not uniform to begin with.
Example:
A tin of tea may sell for 5.99 on line.
At our downtown Marriott they charge 9.99
At a Starbucks franchise in the east end of our county, the charge is 6.99

I questioned a Starbucks representative about this and was told that pricing is up to the franchise and will differ in various locations in the same city. I'll give them major props for at least being honest.

Me? I'm going Independent. The price increase for a medium coffee at Starbucks is ".20" while one of our local companies is .45 cents cheaper to begin with. As is the local store would save me a tad over $70.00 a year based on a three cup a week average.

Sometimes doing the math is the only way to figure it out.

I support Independent artists, about time I support Independent businesses. Goodbye Starbucks. We had a good run.
