On June 17, Hiromi Uehara, whose passionate and incendiary keyboard work has been a shining light on the jazz landscape since her 2003 debut, releases Alive on Telarc/Concord.
Hiromi’s Trio Project, featuring bassist Anthony Jackson & drummer Simon Phillips, will perform at the Blue Note in New York City from June 25 – 29. Here’s video of Hiromi performing the title track live in the studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
“As always, the nine pieces are inexorably melodic and episodic; each evokes a place, a feeling, an environment. She sculpts her lines with heady counterpoint, modernist dissonance, impressionist harmonies, bebop and the blues, and interprets them with virtuoso dexterity, independence, articulation and touch, incorporating the piano’s full registral and dynamic range to convey the emotions in play.”
“Mission accomplished…The art of the piano trio is alive and well.”
“Hiromi’s music is always edgy and gratifying and she continues to impress on Alive.”

“Real Music! It sounds like summertime fun with a groovy dangerous swagger, always a party with this crew! Hiromi, A.J., and Simon continue where they left off. Can't wait to see them LIVE.”
