The improvisational revolution has begun...welcome Theo Croker taking cool to a new level.

Take the old school sound of Doc Cheatham and infuse a soulful and soul filled sound of the next generation of trumpet greats and you would only be scratching the surface that is Theo Croker. The grandson of the great New Orleans native Doc Cheatham is blazing a lyrical trail and completing the harmonic evolution of just where improvisational music can go. Afro Physicist is an innovative and daring release produced by Dee Dee Bridgewater. Cameos from Roy Hargrove and Stefon Harris only add additional threads of color to a twelve track harmonic mind melt of inspired flavor.
Afro-Physicist is a bold melodic statement that transcends genre. "Light Skinned Beauty" is a mosaic of sound with elements of rock, hip hop & R &B. This swirling cacophony of sound is the harmonic baseline of a sonic exploratory that few of Croker's contemporaries can match. The cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "Visions" includes the great vibraphonist Stefon Harris and the lyrical path laid down is an inspired work with that rare three dimensional depth of field that few artists can muster.
Theo Croker's vision is one of a unified musical base. Draw from it what you will, Afro-Physicist is harmonic synergy. There is an energy and flow that is old school in substance but cutting edge in contemporary execution. Croker's musical stock is an arrow pointing straight up. There is a relatively new shooter in modern jazz trumpet and his name is Theo Croker. Remember it!
One of the best for 2014!
