APRIL 8: Oran Etkin's 2nd Motéma CD - The Gathering Light.  Gathering Light is a subtle and emotionally affecting  jazz-world release from multi-reed man, composer, and education innovator Oran Etkin. This excellent recording features top notch musicians Ben Allison, Nasheet Waits, Lionel Loueke and Curtis Fowlkes.  Etkin has interwoven folk melodies and rhythms discovered on his recent concert tours in Indonesia, China, Japan, Israel and Europe, incorporating them into his own original compositions. Motéma @ Jazzahead Conference in Germany Featuring (6) Artists.  Motéma sent a delegation of artists and staff to the annual  Jazzahead! conference in Bremen, Germany, where (6) label artists are featured. Showcases are by:  Marc Cary, Charnett Moffett, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Oran Etkin and Will Calhoun plus a screening of the new documentary Jaimeo Brown's Transcendence.

Motéma @ Lafayette's World Festival April 25 & New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival April 26. Motéma's founder Jana Herzen headed out to Louisiana to experience The Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette before going to cheer on Réne Marie at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 26, the same day NPR All Things Considered runs its feature on the jazz vocalist everyone is watching. Plus we're thrilled that WWOZ FM will broadcast her concert live from the jazz tent and she'll have 9pm & 11pm shows at Snug Harbor that night.  Come on down if you're in the Big Easy!
Jaimeo Brown & Transcendence Documentary.   Picked as one of the top albums in 2013 by NPR's Music Critics poll, JazzTimes, Jazz Wise and others, Transcendence by multi-talented drummer and composer Jaimeo Brown lends Southern spirituals, East Indian music, jazz, blues and electronica into a seamless patchwork. Now a new documentary by Mario Tahi Lathan and Motéma tells the story of Jaimeo's journey to Gees Bend, Alabama, and the influence of the famous quilters -- but lesser known singers -- on one of the brightest emerging stars in jazz.  Some journeys start in the middle....  VIDEO TRAILER 
Geri Allen Receives Honorary Berklee Degree.  Berklee School of Music President Roger H. Brown will present Geri Allen with an honorary doctor of music degree at Berklee's commencement ceremony on May 10 at Boston University.  Congratulations, Geri!
