Louisville Kentucky Music Music Critic Needs Your Help!

My name is Brent Black and while I am a globally recognized jazz critic, I am honored to be carried on the Courier Journal in my hometown of Louisville Kentucky.

I am currently in a literal life and death struggle with liver disease. As of now, qualifying for a transplant seems almost impossible. I have bleeding issues which would make surviving most any surgery a miracle. Bills are coming in and despite being on Medicaid there are a myriad of pills and miscellaneous that the Federal Government will not pay for. My disability is being held up despite the Government knowing that aside from a dying liver there is also an inoperable blood clot.

I have continued writing each and every day whether I felt like it or not. I have fought University Hospital, Collection Agencies thanks to U of L not following proper indigent care benefit guidelines and I have tried to run the point on my own fund raising.

I have a radiological procedure on April 8th to see how the blood flow is to my major organs. Another surgical procedure on the 25th to check for bleeding. These while dangerous do not require I take blood thinners which will kill me. Sometime after this I have a possible liver bypass scheduled. Seems to be all they can do.

The funds I have tried to raise are a drop in the bucket. I don't know how to gauge the amount as I have never found myself in this position before. It's embarrassing. I have spent my own time trying to help struggling Independent artists raise money and now I need some help. I am close to reaching my goal but I need much more.

In the last 24 hrs I went from 204 to 188. I am scared. Anything you can do will help.

I need your help desperately.

God Bless and Be Well!
