If progressive rock has a voice, it is Jon Anderson!

Jon Anderson is that rare artist whose voice while identifiable as the lead singer for YES, transcends genre, time, and space. During the summer of 1976, Olias of Sunhillow was released to widespread critical acclaim. Jon had the novel if not incredibly logical premise that if one is to do a solo release, it should be just that! Anderson is responsible for writing and performing all the music on this legendary classic, a solo effort widely recognized as the most successful of all the solo projects coming out of YES during this same juncture.
The lyrical visionary that is Jon Anderson utilized synthesizers, tape loops, more primitive ethnic instruments as well as sound effects and different voices. There is a harmonic sense of purpose that flows in an evocative fashion through his interpretation of both Celtic and Central Asian music today. While taste is certainly subjective when compared to the exponential growth in the global fusion marketplace, Olias of Sunhillow could easily chart today despite the 38 year time gap. Jon Anderson far surpasses the rather open ended label of singer, Anderson is a vocal artist creating vivid imagery with both sound and silence. The instrumentation here would seem to have been sought out to reinforce his vocal prowess thus elevating the harmonic texture to a new and yet undiscovered level.
Cinematic in scope yet organic in execution this may well have been the finest YES release to never see the light of day. As a solo release it stands as one of the finer releases to cut across any genre. The Roger Dean inspired cover art and the mythical flights of fancy that Anderson's lyrics capture are stunning. Not a release, an experience.
The packaging features a series of artworks by the artist David Fairbrother Roe.
