Psych Out Christmas Various Artists Cleopatra 2013

A very trippy Christmas!
Brent Black / www.criticaljazz.com

Christmas much like home is indeed where you find it and Cleopatra Records scores big with Psych Out Christmas! Take some of the best known Christmas classics such as "Little Drummer Boy" and "White Christmas" and then add bands like Dark Horses, The Fuzztones and Iggy Pop and  you get a rock and roll Christmas like none other!

Contrary to popular belief the psychedelic rock scene has never faded away it has simply been doing time in the rock and roll witness protection program. Aside from the normal cast of Christmas characters, the Zombies "Time Of The Season" makes a delightful appearance thanks to Sons of Hippies! Psych Out Christmas is about as far out of my wheelhouse as I have ever gone and never had I experienced this must fun with a rock oriented Christmas album.

As a critic I have a very few rules with one being a bad review on a Christmas record being a sure ticket to hell. Psych Out Christmas pulls no punches and searches for no noble truths but instead it perfectly captures just how much fun Christmas can be! Eccentric, eclectic and wildly entertaining!
