Standards can be dull, boring, tired and predictable.

Enter Todd Londagin.

Under the watchful eye and ear of vocalist and trombonist Todd Londagin we find an eclectic set of standards retooled for a more contemporary spin on classics made new. Look Out For Love is a delicious mash up of the Great American Songbook and popular songs banged out with precision, style and flair that takes one back to the days of Glenn Miller amped up for the next generation.

The quintet here is incredibly tight and has that classic working band feel that takes what could be by all accounts a "nice" record and elevates the project to "special" in short order. The more familiar tunes here are "I Concentrate On You" from Cole Porter and "Long Ago & Far Away"  from Jerome Kern and Ira Gershwin. What first would seem totally out of place fits hand in glove with this unique set, the reharmed Stevie Wonder classic "I Can't Help It" is reinvented with a masters touch. "Pennies  From Heaven" is a most organic take on the Johnny Burke and Arthur Johnson classic. Londagin's vocal style? Think John Pizzarelli with better pitch, smooth effortless and that new cool elegance many of his contemporaries struggle to find but fall way short of the mark. I mean no disrespect to Pizzarelli but the simple fact is some can sing and some can play an instrument and in this case some can do both and with a high level of proficiency.

Todd Londagin is a rising star, one of the new young lions of improvisational music with mad skills and unlimited potential. Look Out For Love is one of those hidden gems that swings cool and easy but with just enough pop to make it interesting. You simply can not go wrong here!
