The Kings's Singers Great American Songbook Signum 2013

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!

This British vocal sextet are hardly newbies. These Grammy winners have blown away audiences all over the globe including major televised events such as the 2008 Winter Olympics. To take on the Great American Songbook is no easy task as one can easily run the risk of failing due to predictability and sub-par arrangements. Not here, the unpredictability of this release and the inventive arrangements allow this stellar recording to breath life into some tunes that by some standards may have seen better days.
This two disc set has plenty to offer in that disc one is of course their a capella wheelhouse while disc two is an eight song masterpiece in an orchestral setting. Varied arrangements but with that trademark intensity have tunes from disc one including "Night And Day" and "I've Got You Under My Skin" at the top of the favorites list from a release that is truly lyrical perfection. Some of the gems from disc two include "My Funny Valentine" and "I've Got The World On A String." This is one of those all too rare releases that can write their own review, a critics dream.
Old school jazz vocal lovers should fall in love with this release while the more contemporary listener can still find plenty to enjoy in this most celebratory release. Nothing to grind on here, the epitome of vocal perfection in every way.
