Norman Connors Take It To The Limit Expanded Edition Funky Town Grooves 2013
Norman Connors is back and better than ever thanks to the magic of Funky Town Grooves!
I once made the statement that those over looked and under appreciated artists from "back in the day" would never be skipped over on my watch. With re-issues it is normally buyer beware, Funkytown Grooves is charting an amazing course with Norman Connors expanded edition of Take It To The Limit.
So who is Norman Connors? Let's go old school shall we? Connors could easily be considered the godfather to say Narada Michael Walden. A jazz drummer, composer, arranger and producer that guided some incredibly influential jazz and R&B groups. Ballads may have been his wheelhouse and his work on the legendary Buddah Records was indeed some of his finest. As a writer he scored with Phyllis Hyman among others and most recently performed with such luminaries as Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Norman Connors is still thriving today working that harmonic niche somewhere between R&B and the smoother side of the jazz street but if you really wanna go "back in the day" then Take It To The Limit is priceless! This expanded edition features three extended mixes that simply seal the deal on some classics.
Having long said if you know the label and can get a handle on where they are coming from then you are almost certain to score well and with Funky Town Grooves there is no denying that they indeed make old school new cool again!
