David Ian Vintage Christmas Wonderland Prescott 2013

Vince Guaraldi is gone and he is not coming back, luckily we have David Ian.

As a critic, I have very few rules with perhaps the most important being never give a Christmas release a bad review as it is a sure ticket to hell. No issues here!
In show business one of the main rules of thumb is always leave them wanting more and that is exactly what happens with David Ian's Vintage Christmas Wonderland. This five track gem is by common acceptance an E.P. but taking into account quality and not quantity not to mention it is the perfect bookend to the 2011 Christmas release Vintage Christmas then Ian scores perfect tens across the board!

Tossing political correctness to the wind, I have mad respect for any artist that uses the actual name of the Federal Holiday celebrated around the world as Christmas. Don't celebrate Christmas? No problem, just don't rain on the parade of those that do. It is the warmth and nostalgic feel of this delightful release that elevates the recording to a Norman Rockwell type sound long missing from the overly commercialized Christmas releases one is bombarded with shortly after Halloween. Call it retro, vintage or throw back the old school intimacy and charm is elegant and sophisticated hearkening back to a time when the world was not quite so dangerous and home and family had true meaning.

My personal recommendation, go to and order both. If you use Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas as a standard of lyrical measure than David Ian is running a very close second. An absolute must for the Christmas season!
