MOBILE FIDELITY SOUND LAB RELEASES
PIANIST/VOCALIST/COMPOSER PATRICIA BARBER'S
CONCORD JAZZ DEBUT, SMASH, ON SACD
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab—the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since 1977—is releasing Patricia Barber's Concord Jazz debut, Smash, on Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD). On Smash, Barber reiterates her unique position in modern music as a jazz triple-threat—imaginative pianist, startling vocalist, and innovative composer. With a new band and a dozen new compositions, she also continues her two-decade crusade to retrieve the ground that jazz musicians long ago ceded to pop and rock: the realm of the intelligent and committed singer-songwriter, tackling even familiar subjects (like love and loss) with a nuance and depth beyond the limits of the Great American Songbook.
Smash was recorded and mixed by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Jim Anderson and was meticulously mastered for SACD release by Rob LoVerde at Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (http://www.mofi.com).
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab also plans to release Smash in an audiophile 180 gram vinyl, double-LP edition in the fall of 2013.
“Barber’s clear, relaxed singing and understated but expressive piano playing continue to offer a winning mix of warmth and cool…their dreamy nuances reward your attention.”

“Smash is an extraordinary achievement. Here, jazz is popular music without being anything other than itself. Its depth, creativity, searing poetry, and artisan musicianship make it a peerless accomplishment.” ****
“Conspicuously literate and restlessly inventive.”
