Woody Herman Blue Flame Jazzed Media DVD 2012

To honor what would have been the centennial Birthday celebration of the great Woody Herman, Jazzed Media's latest documentary tribute "Woody Herman: Blu Flame" is set to release on November 13th, 2012. A comprehensive documentary follows the 50+ year career of one of the most important figures in big band music today. While the Goodman, Basie, and Stan Kenton bands were all pioneers in their own right, Woody Herman's Thundering Herd was an aptly titled ensemble. This particular in depth recording goes as far back as old Ed Sullivan clips not to mention some rare appearences on Iowa Pulbic Television.

Herman led his band for fifty years starting in 1936 cultimating with his passing in 1987. Unlike the Goodman band that ushered in the swing era, Herman's band runs in time with the changes in modern jazz throughout the years from swing to bebop and cool jazz in the 40's and 50's and was on the cutting edge of the jazz/rock fusion sound from the 60's and 70's. Perhaps more so than any other band leader, Herman was responsible for giving a leg up to many of the jazz stars of the day including Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Joe Lovano. Some of the finest composers/arrangers of the past seventy years passed through the Herman band including Gerry Mulligan, Bill Holman and Alan Broadbent.

This one of a kind documentary includes ove 400 rare photographs and extensive interviews filmed with Woody Herman. Jazzed Media is an outlet committed to the highest quality, musical integrity and production standards in use today. Other epic documentaries shot from Jazzed Media include Phil Woods: A Life in E Flat - Portrait of a Jazz Legend, Bud Shank: Against the Tide - Portrait of a Jazz Legend, Stan Kenton: Artistry in Rhythm - Portrait of a Jazz Legend.
