The "real" relationship as it should be between an artist and a critic!

Kenny Shanker
  • Hey Brent,

Thanks so much for the kind words in your review of "Introducing the Verge". My last CD had many reviews, some of them from big publications, and yours was by far the most in depth and thoughtful. I often wonder if some of these critics even listen to the material. In any case, I deeply appreciate what you do. I know you have been struggling with health issues and I sincerely hope that you feel better soon. Please keep doing what you are doing. Everyone in my circle knows about you and has a lot of respect for you. You have an outstanding reputation in the musical community. There are always going to be people who feel the need to spread their venom, but I hope you don't let a few misguided souls get to you too much. The work you do is needed and extremely important. Every review and commentary you make is insightful and comes from the heart. How many people are out there right now doing what you do? I can't think of anyone who does it on such a high level. Anyhow, that's just my two cents for the day. Sorry for the long email. Thanks again for everything!

I should have asked Kenny for his permission on his but...this goes well with my Robert Hilburn series on the relationship between a critic and an artist and their role in the business...
