So why does a music critic post anything on politics? I simply ask you look at the economic questions closely. If you are a musician, a record label or merely a passive listener these numbers have a direct bearing on
a.) what labels may be hiring
b.) what labels may be staying in business
c.) what artists may be able to afford to keep going or not
Sales are still down. The number of releases I have handled this year is down and that includes labels I simply no longer touch due to time constraints and reader demand. If you are an artist this is information you need to consider closely. There is nothing noble about playing class warfare if you can't get a gig.
