The Democratic National Convention is in full swing and while our country and political systems may not be perfect and certainly up for reasonable debate, we will soon see another anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in history.
This does not mean we should ever forget what happened at the summer Olympics in Munich in 1972 which was a mere 38 years ago. Below is an account which is properly footnoted from Wikipedia explaining the events should you not be familiar:
The Games were largely overshadowed by what has come to be known as the Munich massacre. On September 5 a group of eight Palestinian terrorists belonging to the Black September organization broke into the Olympic Village and took nine Israeli athletes, coaches and officials hostage in their apartments. Two of the hostages who resisted were killed in the first moments of the break-in; the subsequent standoff in the Olympic Village lasted for almost 18 hours.
Late in the evening of September 5, the terrorists and their hostages were transferred by helicopter to the military airport of Fürstenfeldbruck, ostensibly to board a plane bound for an undetermined Arab country. The German authorities planned to ambush them there, but underestimated the number of terrorists and were thus undermanned. During a botched rescue attempt, all of the Israeli hostages were killed. Four of them were shot, then incinerated when one of the terrorists detonated a grenade inside the helicopter in which the hostages were sitting. The five remaining hostages were then machine-gunned by another terrorist.
Today we have individuals that are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. Below is another properly footnoted, accurate and detailed account of the link between Middle Eastern terrorism and the Palestinian cause. I pulled the review of an artist and I use that term loosely who supports the Palestinian cause. The human garbage responsible for Munich and the violence referenced below is beyond contempt. Never sacrifice your moral integrity in the name of political correctness. That my friends is what is killing this great nation today.
Palestinian political violence refers to acts of violence undertaken to further the Palestinian cause. These political objectives include self-determination in and sovereignty over Palestine, the liberation of Palestine and establishment of a Palestinian state, either in place of both Israel and the Palestinian territories, or solely in the Palestinian territories. Periodically directed toward more limited goals such as the release of Palestinian prisoners, another key aim is to advance the Palestinian right of return.
Palestinian groups involved in politically motivated violence include Hamas, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Fatah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC), the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Abu Nidal Organization. Tactics have included include plane hijackings, stone throwing, stabbing, shootings, and bombings.
Palestinian political violence has targeted Israelis, Palestinians, Lebanese, Jordanians, Egyptians and citizens of other countries. The attacks have taken place within and outside Israel and have been directed at both military and civilian targets. Israeli statistics state that 3,500 Israelis have been killed and 25,000 have been wounded as a result of Palestinian violence since the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. These figures include soldiers as well as civilians, including those killed in exchanges of gunfire.
Palestinian terrorism is alive and well. The ends do not justify the means. Freedom of Speech comes with responsibility. For those that call themselves artists and support violence such as this, you disgrace Art as a complete entity. To hide behind a particular form of art to further your own self interests and hidden political agenda is true cowardice in action. Much like the terrorists that stormed the compound in Munich. You will fail.
