Green Day’s Epic Punk Tantrum Becomes The Talk Of iHeartRadio Festival, Day 1

You had to see this one coming...

Before I get to the story here, let us play catch up for those playing along at home that may have missed out. I recently called out pianist George Colligan for trashing Amanda Palmer for her then refusal to properly compensate her volunteer musicians. Colligan and I actually agree and we both hold a negative view of Ms. Palmer's work.

The point? Colligan's piece was an admittedly vicious and to use his words "harsh" hit piece on Palmer which was a blatant personal attack. The same personal attack I was accused of when it came to the release of the Nicholas Payton record Bitches which as predicted - stiffed faster than "Hope and Change." So...Because Colligan is a professional musician he feels he has free reign and justification to crucify Palmer at will yet while I hold a degree in music but no longer play professionally I am not entitled to express a pointed view? The difference being Colligan is an admitted friend of Payton and also admits paying a publicist a large sum of money in order to seek a favorable review. Colligan's three thousand dollar mistake may be why he holds critics in such low esteem and why his insecurity got the better of him in a recent open letter to me. Perhaps when I referred to him as a second rate pianist that did the trick but let us face facts. Some musicians are leaders, some are session players and some fall somewhere in between. Given Colligan's latest release was that of a sideman with bassist Josh Ginsburg, you figure it out. I never once said Colligan was without talent giving his positive remarks in my Ginsburg review but sometimes it is what it is as they say. Sometimes the truth is a harsh mistress and calling out an apparent hypocrite is appropriate under the circumstances. Sometimes people such as Colligan are simply trolling for hits...Make up your own mind.

So back to Green Day...
A few short weeks ago the band was "devastated" when their lead singer was hospitalized. The condition? I don't know and being his private medical matter much like Amanda Palmer's publicity nightmare finding out would constitute caring.

I don't...

Given the previous facts and history of Billie Joe Armstrong you are free to draw your own conclusions. My last and final point is if a guy that has got to be pushing 40 insists on acting like he is 14 why are we giving people like this any coverage at all?

UPDATE!

Billie Joe Armstrong to enter rehab after on-stage meltdown...

Remember America...If it walks like a duck...www.criticaljazz.com does wish Armstrong good health and success during his long road to recovery. You can read the full story on Yahoo News should you be so inclined. Armstrong deserves his privacy and some very important down time now.

That will be my final word on the matter.
