I'm a sucker for anything with Vince Mendoza's name attached to it. Toss in Al Jarreau on vocals and that is simply hot fudge on ice cream. You know it's gonna be good and neither are disappointing on this slightly more classic look at the very best of Al Jarreau.
The release works extremely well with marvelous arrangements of some of Jarreau's favorites and happily some that have seen better days have been left off the set the list. Jarreau navigates not just the crowd but uses The Metropole Orkest and Vince Mendoza to full effect here for a winning combination.
After a bit of a health scare, Jarreau sounds in fine form and this performance is first rate. Don't call it a comeback because Jarreau never really left. Al Jarreau is the only vocalist in history to net Grammy Awards in three different categories being jazz, pop and R&B and this release is proof as to why.
