Catching Up With Sara Gazarek Blossom & Bee Interview Part 3!

Continuing my interview with Sara Gazarek! You can click on the link below for Part 2

With Blossom & Bee I love that you sing "with" the band and not around them as though they were an after thought. Especially with the addition of guests Larry Goldings and John Pizzarelli. How does the flawless ebb and flow happen?

S.G. - "The band that I lead and work with is indeed a band. They have contributed to the arrangements, song selection, and sound that we've created over the years, so it's always important to me for the sound scape to reflect that. I'm not just a singer standing in front of the band stand in a pretty dress, singing some songs that a musical director dictates.  We share the stage equally because their parts are just as integral in the sound that we create as my voice. I think John fits perfectly because Larry put a lot of thought into bringing someone on board who has a similar approach, and would fit into that same landscape."

Finally -In the 3 to 4 minutes of downtime you may have - Who do you listen to? Who are your musical inspirations and what was the name of the last disc you purchased?

S.G. - "I have a number of different artists I love and find inspiration from, and can always find time to listen. :) I love the music of Kate McGarry and Kurt Elling, young jazz vocalists Sachal Vasandani and Gretchen Parlato, classic jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Anita O'Day, Blossom Dearie, Carmen McRae, Chet Baker, etc.  I also love the music of Kneebody, Harry Nilsson, Joni Mitchell, Amos Lee, Maria Rita, Alan Hampton.  The last album I purchased was Robert Glasper's new CD "Black Radio"."
