Jules Day Day Dreams Spotlight Review 2011

The jazz elite can and will argue over exactly where Jules Day "fits." Labels are an often career killing tools by which the record labels carefully position an artist simply as an effective and efficient means of marketing their product. Keeping in mind taste is subject and tone deaf lasts forever this is a business model that has long since out lived its usefulness. Simply put, Jules Day is a contemporary "throw-back" story teller that does more than sing the songs, she makes the music.

Day Dreams actually hit the street in late 2010 but retains a remarkable shelf life unlike most releases of similar nature. There is a playful sass an all most old soul quality that does not just sell a song but gift wraps a story with an artists heart that allows for an immediate connection with the listener. While an editor friend of mine would caution me on telling the listener what to expect, instead the blatantly obvious can not be ignored and this is where the release shines. Jules Day moves from singer to story teller as effortlessly as she plays catch and release with each vocal note she seems to caress.

Highlights of Day Dreams are many with "Speak To Me" and "Late Night Cafe" showcasing Day's ability to transcend the sonic barrier between singer and story teller and evolve into vocal artist unmatched across virtually any genre that comes to mind. Day's songwriting ability is uncanny in its ability to tell a story that most people can easily relate to. The biggest worry for Jules Day would have to be that critics and fans spend so much time trying to place her in a musical comfort zone for their own benefit that they miss out on what a remarkable story teller she truly is. Singers are a dime a dozen and best found at happy hour in the cocktail lounge of the local Hilton. Story tellers are artists and that best describes Jules Day.

Tremendous jazz sensibilities coupled with an innate feeling for the blues with a subtle yet sensuous Brazilian flavor that is effortless, Jules Day is an artist whose stock arrow points straight up! Day Dreams could easily be the sound track of your life but Jules Day makes it a sonic vacation that you hate leaving.
